Yashodhara Shelter Home

Breaking new ground

The aim of Yashodhara Shelter Home was to provide vulnerable children in the city of Pune with a place where they could find the care that would allow them to develop their full potential and have the best chances to participate and make choices in their own lives. In this space, we provided

  • Access to education and professional training by promoting their integration into the educational and productive system of the country.
  • Access to health care and hygiene, thereby facilitating healthy holistic development.
  • A home that ensured the safeguarding of their rights and the affection they needed.

The Project originated from an approach based on the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of the Child, which guided the objectives, the methodology, and the activities we carried out. This favored a holistic and positive intervention in which the children, their families, and their community took part.

Its implementation allowed the improvement of the lives of vulnerable children and their surroundings, addressing different areas where their rights were violated. Always keeping the best interest of the child in mind, we generated development processes that fostered learning and personal autonomy, thereby favoring a comprehensive, lasting, and stable progress based on the understanding of the children's difficulties and working with and in their environment.

Thanks to Yashodhara Shelter Project we had an impact on the lives of more than 200 vulnerable children in India.
