Support and social inclusion in Málaga
The Vínculos Project is a social initiative of Fundación Asha-Kiran that supports migrants in situations of vulnerability, asylum seekers, refugees, and young people formerly under state guardianship. Its purpose is to foster socialization, the creation of support networks, and the generation of real opportunities for inclusion in the city of Málaga.
Many of the people we support arrive without a social network, without reference figures, and facing significant linguistic, emotional, administrative, and economic barriers. Vínculos was created to respond to this reality, by creating safe spaces for meeting, mutual learning, and support, where each person can rebuild their autonomy and sense of belonging.
We firmly believe that inclusion does not occur solely through resources, but through human connections. For this reason, citizen engagement and volunteering are at the heart of the project.
The reality we support An urgent social challenge in Málaga
Málaga has a considerable young population at risk of exclusion, which poses significant challenges for their social, educational, and labour inclusion. Among these groups are young people who have been under state care, asylum seekers, and humanitarian migrants, many of whom lack support networks, stable housing, and training opportunities.
The people who come to Vínculos have gone through complex situations, both in their countries of origin and during the migration process and upon their arrival in Spain. Many live in situations of homelessness or precarious housing, do not know the language—in some cases they cannot read or write—are separated from their families, and have experienced violence or long and, in many cases, traumatic migration journeys.
This reality is compounded by a lack of economic resources, the absence of work permits in many cases, and strong social isolation, which makes access to opportunities and available resources in the city more difficult.
In response to this context, Asha-Kiran, aligned with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, develops the Vínculos Project as a response, promoting strategies based on citizen participation and personalized support.
The main objective of Vínculos is to break isolation and build community, offering spaces where people can feel safe while accessing real tools for their inclusion.
How we do it Activities and support
Spanish classes and literacy
Language learning is a key tool for social inclusion. For this reason, we offer Spanish classes—from literacy to intermediate levels—both in-person and online, adapted to different learning paces. These classes not only focus on language, but also on building confidence, participation, and knowledge of the environment.
Mentors Programme
We facilitate the creation of connections through individual support relationships between volunteers and participants. They meet weekly to build trust, practice the language, and navigate the city. This programme helps to create real support networks and has been key for many people to overcome isolation or access employment and housing opportunities.
Emotional well-being and expression
We offer spaces for psycho-emotional support and expression through workshops in ceramics, music, yoga, body expression, and individualized therapeutic support. These spaces foster personal development and emotional management.
Training and access to employment
We facilitate access to training courses through partner organizations and offer employment guidance through the Andalucía Orienta programme, promoted by Fundación Lucaro.
Sociocultural and intercultural activities
We organize outings and activities that promote participation in city life, intercultural encounters, and mutual learning, strengthening the bonds between participants and volunteers.
Social support
We have the support of volunteers with a social profile who guide and accompany people in situations of exclusion in their integration process.
Community and active participation
People who participate in the project can also become volunteers: supporting classes, teaching others, or promoting activities. We believe in a community where everyone has something to contribute. This approach strengthens self-esteem, shared responsibility, and a sense of belonging.
Citizen mobilization
The driving force of the project
Without you, it is not possible. The Foundation’s mission is to promote spaces for encounter and support so that citizens who wish to be an active part of social transformation toward a more welcoming, inclusive, and empathetic city can do so. For this reason, all activities necessarily involve the participation of Volunteers.
