Fun with a Purpose
For a few weeks, the Day Care Centers for Migrant Children in Pune set aside their usual academic sessions to make way for a Summer Camp filled with creativity, play, and learning. Day after day, the children’s attendance and participation grew, reflecting the enthusiasm with which they embraced this experience.
Throughout the camp, they enjoyed a wide variety of activities: yoga and Zumba sessions, dance performances, fashion shows, drawing and crafts, paper printing, making vases and flower holders, creative projects with recycled materials, storytelling, role-playing games, songs, group dynamics, and activities focused on personal development and teamwork.
Beyond the fun, each of these experiences was an opportunity for continued development. The children strengthened their ability to express themselves, their language comprehension, listening skills, fine motor skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities. At the same time, they built self-confidence, learned to cooperate, to work as a team, and to interact with others in a more respectful and positive way.
In contexts where childhood is marked by precariousness and uncertainty, play is also a way to learn, to discover one’s own abilities, and to reclaim the right to be a child.
We love seeing their smiles, their enthusiasm, and everything they’re capable of accomplishing when they have a safe space where they feel cared for, valued, and free to explore. We hope to continue organizing many more camps that contribute to their well-being and holistic development.
