Vínculos celebrates its first anniversary in Malaga
When companionship creates community
A year ago, Vínculos began its journey in Malaga as a simple but greatly needed space: a place of encounters, companionship, and support for young migrants and asylum seekers who were arriving in the city without a support network, without references, and often without words to describe what they had been through. Today, twelve months later, we are celebrating its first anniversary with gratitude, humility, and an enormous sense of a shared journey.
The numbers speak for themselves: more than 300 students have taken Spanish and literacy classes, 150 diplomas have been awarded, 50 volunteers have been actively involved, 22 youngsters have been continuously supported through the Mentoring Program, 10 recreational and cultural outings have been organized, and 6 participants have taken a step further by also becoming volunteers in the project itself. These figures delight us, but they only tell part of the story.
The truly transformative nature of Vínculos cannot be measured by statistics. It lies in the atmosphere of trust that is forged in each class, in the quiet perseverance of those who return week after week, in the conversations that help them find their way in a new city, in the human bonds that are woven among people who might never have met otherwise. It lies in the sense of belonging that gradually replaces isolation, and in the certainty of not being alone.
Vínculos is made possible by the commitment of a diverse, generous, and steady group of volunteers who offer their time, listening skills, and presence. It is also made possible by the effort and determination of the students, who come with difficult stories but with an enormous capacity for learning, adapting, and overcoming challenges. This project is, above all, a shared space where everyone learns from everyone else.
Today we are celebrating a year of Vínculos in Malaga, but above all we are celebrating the process, the relationships we have built, and the community that continues to grow. We know that there is still much to be done, and that is why we look to the future with a sense of responsibility and hope.

Thank you to all the people who, in one way or another, make it possible for Vínculos to continue to be a lively, humane, and transformative space.
