A chicken coop to help build their future
Asha-Kiran is celebrating 20 years of making care, support, and life opportunities possible.
Today, at our Talibé Children’s Home in Saint-Louis, Senegal, there are medicines, games, and educational activities. Clothes are washed, the children take showers, and at the end of the day dinner will be served. Every day, we provide meals for between 100 and 150 children.
And while all of this is happening, a chicken coop is beginning to take shape in the courtyard.
Poultry farming is a common activity in Senegal. We want the children to learn this trade from a local specialist while, at the same time, the chicken coop helps generate income to cover part of the Home’s operating costs. Construction has already begun. We still need funds for water, feed, the first chicks, veterinary medicines, and the guidance of the specialist.
This initiative within the Talibé Children’s Home project reflects well what we have been striving to do for the past 20 years at Asha-Kiran: not only respond to immediate needs but also help create new opportunities for the future.
We do this in Senegal, but also in India, where for many years we have supported children and young people so they can grow up with their rights protected, receive an education, continue their studies, and build opportunities for life. We also do it in Málaga, where the Vínculos Project welcomes and supports migrants, asylum seekers, refugees, and young people formerly under state guardianship.
These are very different places and very different realities. What unites them are the people who choose to sustain them.
