At Asha-Kiran, diversity unifies
World Days are pauses that make us aware of the many areas that we, as a human group, participate in while living together on the same planet.
In 2002, the United Nations General Assembly decided to celebrate World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, with the aim of supporting diversity, dialogue, inclusion, and cooperation among different cultures.
Asha-Kiran turns the essence of this day into ongoing work. It welcomes and brings cultures together by sharing experiences that touch upon intellectual, emotional, and spiritual aspects through its projects with children in India and, of late, also with young migrants in Malaga (Spain).
There is a wealth of shared enrichment in the exchange between those who give and those who receive. A mere plate of food offered by one human can open the heart of another. A small gesture of support for social integration can become a giant step toward acceptance.
Diversity furthers creativity in the moments we share, such as language learning, self-expression through art, telling and listening to stories that nourish souls, heal, and help people grow. It helps us to reconcile our differences and make true encounters possible beyond our origin or living conditions. It awakens a potential that brings about common progress by sowing small seeds of peace amid daily struggles, in remote but significant places, thus contributing to the wish for well-being in the world.
Helping hands at Asha-Kiran turn ordinary days into true World Days.
